Journey Reflection

The delivery and management of healthcare services and the search for equitable access to health services are challenges which affect human beings across the world. Our basic human vulnerabilities become exposed when confronted with major natural catastrophes as the hurricanes we experienced in the Caribbean, or with the onset of epidemics which can become pandemics as exemplified in our current struggle with the novel coronavirus Covid-19.

My understanting of the universal nature of healthcare has been deepened by the challenges of seeking treatment alternatives in my native Puerto Rico and Caribbean, by helping empower women in community-based cooperatives in India, and working with a European healthcare company seeking to establish its presence in the Americas.   Throughout these and other experiences, I have become keenly aware to that the struggle to provide effective and dignified care is a faced by all countries and cultures throughout the world. There are immense differences among the healthcare delivery across counties and cultures, but we all confront the same fundamental challenges as we seek to alleviate human suffering, prevent the spread of diseases, and bring cure and rehabilitation through advances in science and technology.

These experiences have strengthened my resolve to be a global advocate for health equity by seeking solutions which are effective and helpful one community at a time, one business at a time, one person at a time.  They have also awakened a passion for seeking collaborative solutions by building organizational alliances where people from different countries and cultures can work together to find solutions which can be shared across national boundaries, recognizing that healthcare is truly a global pursuit which is shared by all human beings.
